Joshlin Smith kidnapping trial
The trial of Racquel “Kelly” Smith, accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and trafficking of her six-year-old daughter, Joshlin, continues in Saldanha Bay. Today, key state witness Lourentia Lombaard underwent cross-examination by defense attorneys.
Lombaard, initially arrested alongside Smith but now a state witness, previously testified that she witnessed Smith sell Joshlin to a sangoma (traditional healer) for R20,000. She alleged the child was sold for her eyes and skin.
The case has drawn significant public attention, with community members expressing outrage and demanding justice for Joshlin. The trial is being held in a sports hall to accommodate the large number of attendees.
Proceedings are ongoing, with the defense challenging the credibility of Lombaard’s testimony. The court aims to uncover the truth behind Joshlin’s disappearance, as she remains missing over a year after her reported abduction.
